GBW
My car was left in a secure village (enclosed and gated access) and over the winter, the windscreen was smashed (comprehensively) and the wing mirrors ripped off.My insurance company, Allianz, is denying my claim. What to do? The repair bill is ~€500.
woolybanana
Did the insurance company give their reasons?I strongly suspect you may need a police report and crime number to get the insurance company involved positively. But there may be conditions in your about leaving the vehicle for so long in that type of location.Others may know better than I
GBW
I have the police report and the insurance company have agreed that the car is in "garage mode" during my absence. They are informed when I need it and when I don't. It is registered in France.
woolybanana
No reason given for their rejection?
GBW
Slope shouldering. They say the garage has been given the go-ahead; the garage says I have to pay. The incident was discovered back in September!
nomoss
My insurance covers my cars when they are in my own private garages on my own property. Not in what is commonly called "a garage".
GBW
There was a misunderstanding. Allianz will pay but I have to pay the excess (as expected).I am sure that the fact that the excess is almost exactly the same as the original bill is just a coincidence!-:)
Cathar Tours
I am sure you read your insurance policy! Doesn't matter what country you are in if there is an excess you will be told by the broker and it will definably be on the actual policy. You are quite entitled to take it to another garage and get an estimate.

mint
Have you looked at your contract? The excess is called la franchise and the exact amount will be written in the bumpf. My franchise on the cars I have owned has been 300 euros for many years now. Perhaps yours is a bit higher as you do not drive the car all year round and you are sometimes an absent owner.Have another close look, it should be plainly visible[:)]
BritinBretagne
If you are going to be paying the bill I suggest that you tell the insurance agent that you will do it privately and you do not want the claim going through their books. Your NCB is at risk.
woolybanana
If the garage thought it was an insurance job they may have boosted the price of the repairs somewhat. Ask them if, given that you will be paying, they cannot come up with a cheaper quote.
