Michael Olley
i wonder if anyone could offer me some advice about what to take into account when considering just covering the annual cost of having a home in france by letting it as a holiday home. i am not necessarily looking to make a profit.i would e.g. count bills such as heating, lighting, water, insurance, local taxes and cost of a person to keep an eye on it and get the house ready for people but assume i need to consider an amount for maintenance. have i missed anything else?i realise this is a bit like how long is a piece of string but if it helps the house has 3 beds and has undergone extensive renovation so is in good shape. JudyM
You might also want to factor in costs such as linen, towels, pillows, bedding (if you're going to provide them), and their regular replacement. What about TV licence, telephone costs? Will you be looking for a gardener too?We will paint through our cottage each year too, to freshen the place up before the new season. There will also be the cost of advertising and managing all your bookings, unless you get a firm to do that for you. And whatever figure you arrive at, add in a bit extra for the inevitable thing you haven't thought of!Good Luck with your venture - where is your house?JudyM
