k8ty2210
My family are relocating to France from Cyprus and need help narrowing down a location to start the search and wondered if anyone could advise. We require a semi-rural location with a good social life close by. Any information would be appreciated. We will initially be renting but then buying once location found but need to start somewhere. Please, please any help would be greatly appreciated.
Pommier
I think you need to give more information in order to receive useful advice. Will you be needing to work? Do you want to live where there are lots of other British people? What climate would you like? Do you want to be near the coast, in mountainous country or flatter land?Your budget will also be a big deciding factor!
k8ty2210
We would need to work ,well set up our own maintenance business hopefully. A Brit community would be good. A good climate of sun would be fab. Budget varies according to what we will find to buy eventually. Inland on flat ground would be better.
Pommier
I think I'd start off by looking at the Dordogne area; lots of British, hot, sunny climate (well, in summer!), inland and more gently rolling than hilly - and there are properties at all sorts of prices (although not mega cheap)
Sprogster
Would advise against any business plan in moving to France that is reliant on Brit customers. Most Brits living full time in France are retirees and with the current economic enviroment, weakening UK property values and enfeebled £, there are currently more Brits leaving France than arriving and most of those that are staying are feeling the pinch.Renting before buying is an eminently sensible idea, as selling rural property in France at the moment can be difficult and could take years. Finally, you may be in for a shock as to how cold, wet and long the French winters are, after your time in Cyprus! k8ty2210
Not planning to rely on using Brits for obtaining work from, same as we are here in Cyprus we do work for all not just Brits, works well
KathyF
In that case your level of French language skills will be important, as you cannot rely on French clients speaking English How good is your French?
