Opalienne
I thought you were expected to do it for free! Certainly people do so in Spain..... (You're talking about the St Jacques pilgrimage?)

Polycarpe
I think Opalienne is right. If one offers shelter on the camino with the expectation of payment one is either running a refugio for which pilgrims are charged a nominal 6-10 euros approx per night incl.breakfast and, for an extra couple of euros, dinner. Refugios are designated as such and most have the authority to stamp the pilgrim passport (credencial) too. or one is running an albergo which, either side of the Pyrenees, is considered a business and therefore generates taxable income. If, however, your giving free bed and board to pilgrims with no expectation of recompense, you're performing an act of corporal mercy. In which case, one day you will be rewarded a hundred times a hundred and given free lodging for eternity in a place even more beautiful than that part of France in which you live now.
