Will
A gite complex near here seems to be keeping open out of season by laying on English entertainments etc for the not-inconsiderable English-speaking population in its immediate vicinity. It is advertising regular curry evenings, quizzes, football matches on Sky TV etc. It's not my particular bag, so we haven't been, but judging by comments on other forums it seems to be a success.I mention it as a suggestion about a way that other gite owners might be able to survive a bit more comfortably during the off-peak season. It does beg all sorts of questions about licences, or how British satellite sports broadcasts can be legally shown publicly overseas - the park's web site seems to avoid mention of these topics, or Siret numbers. But it is obviously possible, and does well.
Miki
As you say Bill, it could certainly open up a can of worms. Some gîte complexes will certainly still be running on the old amateur style of business, i.e paying through CMU but still declaring for tax, in the normal manner. That in itself, as long as their region are still OK with that, isabove board but.....selling food, beers or literally anything alongthose lines, will be strictly interdit and that goes for allowing thepublic to watch TV without the correct payment of ones redevance. Now let's say he is registered at the C de Com purely as gites, thenthe above will still hold but they might have registered somewhatdifferently to the normal gîte complex and we know of a few who havejust about everything that a tourist centre would register, withintheir own registration and therefore all should be fine.So who knows, he may well have a licence 3 (or minimum grande licenceto be able to sell drink with food), he may have paid up front to showTV to clients and even have a resto licence and also been inspected etcto enable them to sell food to off road clients (and that includes evenwhen just advertising in the press or on the net) although a snack typeaffair is some what looser in terminology and can be added on OKWhatever Bill, It certainly would need a siret/siren number to do all that, that's for sure. fionaj
Some gite owners in our area do link with French immobliers to caterfor house hunting guests particularly the Dutch contingent who have along break over Christmas. The English I am told start looking forhouses in earnest in February, so this could keep Gite owners busy allyear round!

I'm sure someone around here hadtheir head nailed to the floor (first time offence, you see) forfailing to do this.

Mind you, that's true practically evrywherenow, particularly where provision of food and drink is concerned. It'snot conducive to enterprise, I would agree. Miki
I guess others won't but those that like to know these things would love to catch them and put a nice few bob in to the coffers !But seriously, an important part of doing something like wine and grub under the counter andnot being registered, is that any guests/clients, falling foul ofdelhi belly will not be covered by the hosts insurance and boy if the personcomplains to the right body, all hell will break loose on them for nothaving the correct insurance.Even the smallest table d'hôte establishment must have the correctinsurance. Apart from that, there is the point, that a local restopaying high cotisations will not be too happy to know that a local Britenterprise is pinching potential clients and do not have theneccessary label to do so. Food and drinks are well regulated, askanyone who has opened a resto or run one in France. There are twochaps opening one in Villebois Lavalette (Bazzer is a member on here )ask them !
