Swimming pool Permis

We're looking to convert a barn into a gite and thought it would be nice to have a 5m x 10m open air swimming pool for the guests. We were hoping to obtain the permis for both the gite and the pool at the same time, however, the planning people (DDASS) appear to be putting forward more hurdles than our architect can jump and he's now advised us, no actually forced us, to drop the pool part of the project and get the pool installer/suppliers to apply for the pool permis separately. This is an inconvenience, as we were hoping to have all groundworks for new fosse and pool to be done at the same time. The DDASS seem to be implying that we should provide showers, footbaths and handicapped access. Is this as a result of the new pool regs? and has anyone else had to overcome these specific requests?

It has been suggested by a friend, that we should apply for a permis for a pool for our private use to get round the red tape, and then allow gite guests to use the pool if they choose to do so. Is this the way to do it or are we likely to annoy the authorities?.

Your comments and observations will be most welcome.

Regards

Graham

A pool for a gite is classed as semi-public. As you state, it needs footbaths, showers extra filtration etc etc. I'm sure lots of people go down the private pool route, but do you want to take the risk? If you have to add a few skimmers afterwards, or a footbath...would it not be more expensive?
