keeping track of the weeks in demand

I'm trying to keep track of our year to year enquiries and I've spent several hours over a spreadsheet working out which weeks

receive the most enquiries... and there does not seem to be any pattern

emerging so far... [:(][blink]

In 2004, loads of enquiries for week 33, in 2005 it's week 29 and 31, in 2006 it's neck and neck for weeks weeks 32 and 34 and in 2007 it's week 34 so far...

Does anyone look at which weeks are the most in demand to work out a price structure or do you simply go for it in July and August because that's when people are on holiday?

Much more scientific than my approach, I confess. That said, we extended our peak season to include seven weeks this year simply because of the shear demand we got generally for this period in 2006. Otherwise, our season runs from UK spring bank holiday (May 26 in 07) to mid July, mid season Easter to spring bank and for September and low otherwise (except Christmas). The only other analysis we did to arrive at this was based on gut feel ([:$]) and a disappointing September in our first year many moons ago that led us to conclude that this was not really a high season.

I've tried doing this with B&B Clair and outside of July and August it varies incredibly from year to year. 2004 June was packed, which was probably due to the 60th anniversary of D-Day but since then June has been scarily quiet.  2004 was also amazing for Easter bookings and enquiries, 2005 we were empty and last year we had bookings but not excess enquiries.  The two periods that have proved to be consistantly busier than I expected is 1st to 15th September and the first fortnight in November (two French bank holidays helps I suppose)  Consequently my peak season now runs from 1st July to 15th September and mid season now extends into November.  Only yesterday I got an enquiry for twelve nights in the family suite from 30th August - very rare in a B&B!

I find the booking pattern changes every year. This year I've got loads of bookings for April and May (low season for me), which I didn't have last year and bookings already for September which I don't normally get until later in the year. I only keep the 7 weeks of peak the same (mid July to 1st September). I never make the last week of May peak, even though it is always guaranteed to be fully booked.
