Angie
I am thinking of renting out my holiday home for a few weeks of the year. We pay tax in the UK so would declare any rental income there; however I understand there is a "local" tax that needs to be paid (which is a nominal tax) - could someone enlighten me as to what this is called or indeed what sort of sums we are talking about. Thanks in advance.
Pickles
You need to declare the income in France and the UK and will have to pay 20% French tax on the profits, which can then be set against your UK tax bill for the same income.RegardsPickles
Polly
Aside from income tax issues, I think the OP is asking about the 'Taxe de Séjour' which some (but not all) communes levy on holiday accommodation charged per person per night, either all year round or just for the summer (or winter ski) season. For this you have to ask your Mairie. It's generally only 2-3 euros per adult per night. If it applies in your commune you can put a clause in your booking contract re any local taxes will be collected by you/your caretaker during the holiday.
