I am thinking of buying and selling antiquated french garden furniture from local Broacntes. shabby chic'ing and storing locally for UK sale. the london market is very strong. I know of two Brocantes in the area.Has anyone connections with possible suppliers?thanks

steveH
shall i rephrase. Does anyone have any helpful information on local antique or junk shops in Northern Brittany?
Cendrillon
Northern Brittany is not my neck of the woods but is there a Troc near you or perhaps Emmaus depot, they might be worth a look. At the Country Living Christmas Fair in London last week someone was selling sets of old French china, every day stuff and asking quite a lot for it. I have seen the same china in junk shops in France and over there it is cheap as chips.
woolybanana
For many years now Brit buyers of both antiques and "junk" have driven round France buying up stuff, gradually pushing their way across the country and putting prices up. But, there are areas still that they have not bothered to explore. Now, I wonder where those might be?[;-)]
Russethouse
Wooly, on this occaision I think you may not be quite right - I do know a couple of dealers who deal in French stuff (one lives there) but the market in the Uk has been dire, and is is only now perking up in certain sectors. Last weekend I was at a French 'Salon' and the prices were eye watering......
woolybanana
Well, RH, you are probably more up to date than I am.
ViVienne
the cost of fuel, shipping and overheads means the price would have to be astronimical to make it worthwhile
Russethouse
People do it and do well, but the stuff isn't cheap and frankly its harder and harder to buy well enough to leave a worthwhile margin
Salty Sam
Strangely enough, while staying in a hotel in Devon recently, got talking to a 'White-van -man' from Brittany who made the trip over to England every couple of months to buy British antiques for sale in - France![:)]
