candide
I have had a quote from a French macon for constructing the "dalle beton" for terraces around the pool (cement foundation for terrace which tiles will then be stuck on top of). It is an area of about 70m2 and his quote comes to 70 euros per square metre for this "dalle beton".It would be reinfored concrete and have some 180cm deep pillars of concrete within it to prevent subsidence. However, this quote still seems very expensive to me per square metre. I just wondered if anyone else had any experience of this, or views on the price? Thanks
derf
I would have thought that the price you have been quoted was reasonable, I helped a friend last year to do a straight forward reinforced 90 m2 dalle and the materials alone with a digger etc. cost him in excess of €2500 excl. tiles. Poolguy
Yes on the face of what you have written I would say that you are notonly safe but have got a very good deal. The quantity of concrete alonewould make the price you have been offered favourable to you. There is a lot of work involved in this and its important that its donecorrectly. As we have expereienced jobs which have not been done wellwith neither professionalism nor care and the result is a disaster....for example the first 'giveaway' is most of the tiles cracking afterone season, secondly subsidence cause some tiles to lift more than 2 cmproud of others (very dangerous as well as unsightly). Laying a terrace is not as easy as it seems and there is plenty of'don'ts' to be observed. Getting a professional has many merits whichare not immediatly obvious... its only concrete after all. But a niceterrace can enhance a building to the same extent that a bad terracecan ruin its appearance. Once its done badly the cost of a 'do-over'will far outstrip the orginal cost of good job.Andrew
Dog
We built a 2m wide tiled terrace around our 4x8m pool.Reinforced concrete 6 inches deep on sand & crushed stone tiled with frost proof non-slip tiles at €4.48 sq m on offer from Lapeyre.Total cost approx €2500 including buying a concrete mixer and a lot of sweating mixing the concrete. candide
It's great if you can do it yourself, but unfortunately some of us are less practical and rely on the know-how of others.
Dog
I am retired, unfit, significantly not tall enough for my weight, over 50 with soft hands used to sitting at a desk.
