TroisChatNoir
I have a 6m x 1.5m above ground pool with a good pump & sand filter running at 0.5 bar, I am currently filling up with clean water from my well & getting it set up for summer, but so far haven't added any chlorine etc, and would prefer not to use chemicals if possible.question 1 can I use salt instead of chlorine?question 2do I need to buy anything extra to use salt ?question3will it be cheaper?thanks in advance
Cat
There was a thread a while ago covering this http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/1048328/ShowPost.aspxThen there is this thread discussing the pros and cons of salt vs chlorine http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/1142302/ShowPost.aspxIt's worth remembering that in a salt water pool the salt is converted to chlorine anyway!EDIT; and finally, I've just remembered another thread discussing using well-water in a pool http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/1267645/ShowPost.aspx
Poolguy
Cathy has given you ample background reading to start with where this discussion has happened before.I can reiterate that Q1 Response; Salt is sodium chloride, from which Chlorine is made by electrolysis in your pool water, the rules are the same the concentrations are the same and the results should be the same (except in most case they are not)Q2Response. you will need to buy an electrolyser and a pH balance doser cost around €3-4000for a good quality equipment (plus fitting)and then there is stabilised salt something like 3-500kg/year, plus pH minusQ3Cheaper than what? Manual dosing (R. NO) cheaper than Chlorine direct auto dosing (R. NO), cheaper than Oxygen actif (R; Yes)Will it be more effective than any of the above - (R. NO)Contact me or check my website of you want clarificationAndrew
