Théière
I can't, because all the floating and in-line chlorine dispensers use multi action gallets which add 5-6ppm of Cyanuric acid (CYA) to your pool which means after only 8 gallets your pool is at the maximum CYA figure (50ppm). Then you need to switch to an un-stabilised form of chlorine or increase the amount of available chlorine (to 4-5ppm or more depending on the CYA level) to counter the chlorine bound to the CYA. This will result in the water needing to be changed/partial change and if you factor that cost into your pool then the "cheap" option is no longer cheap. You need Cyanuric acid (CYA) in your pool because it helps to prevent sunlight UV from burning up the chlorine during the day but just as with many other things too much of a good thing is bad. Have you had your pool water tested for CYA and not with a dip strip as they simply cannot test for that accurately, in a recent trip I tested pools at 140-190ppm CYA and the three different dip strips I had showed 20-30 and 0ppm. Théière
In that case a cheap floating dispenser should do it if your not away for more than 3 weeks ish, best you arrange to tether the floater otherwise they tend to get stuck just in front of the skimmer and dissolve the chlorine gallets too fast. Try a bit if polypropylene string wedged in the lid and tied to your ladder for instance. Otherwise the Astral in-line for longer but please head the warning of using gallets too much. Putting the winter/opaque cover back on will often help lessen the chance of an algae attack should the chlorine level drop, and lessen the chlorine demand,
DAVEF
Thanks for the info.Got the Astral in-line dispencer from Cash Piscine La Roche. I'll set it at mid setting to start, plus the winter cover. Hopefully this will work and I don't come back to a Green Pool and the wife telling me to get some fish. PS. I recommend Cash Piscine at La Roche sur Yon, Good prices and very helpfull.
