Turbo Elite Robot

I have been asked to look at a friend's Turbo Elite pool robot which has had just over 2 years use and is giving problems. It tends to run for a bit and then stops. After a rest it can often be got going again for a time and I suspect that there is a possible fault inside the casing of the traction drive motor. The power unit only contains a 230 to 18 volt transformer having a 14 ampere secondary and a timer unit. The feed to the robot is therefore a.c. and the power unit seems to be working normally with 18 volts a.c. being supplied to the output socket even when the robot goes into fault mode. The traction motor casing must have some devices within to give the reversing capability etc and I suspect that this is where the problem lies. I don't know if these are a.c. motors or if there are bridge rectifiers built into the casing as well as other electronic components. The suction motor is also connected into the traction motor casing.

Has anyone had experience of opening the motor casing and if so can it be resealed to withstand the rated depth of 4 metres. A service agency has quoted 400 odd euros to fix it which is about half the cost of a new one which given its age I suspect is not good value!............................JR
