Wils
After a bit of research I seem to have found the problem with my pool is 'PH lock'. I have a very high alkalinity reading and the suggested remedy is to dilute the pool water with fresh water....................however.........................I also did a test on our tap water (forage) and found it also has a very high alkalinity (245). Does anyone know of a product I could purchase from the pool shop which would help or does anyone have another suggestion. Thanks

Jonzjob
On the subject of bicarb. I phoned the tech guys at the worlds biggest bicarb producers, Solvay France, and asked the question as to what is the difference between bicarb produced for human and animal consumption? The reply was that the animal stuff goes to a different packaging line to the human stuff. Otherwise, it all goes through the same production. The difference? At one of our local pool supply providers €34/25KgThe local Co-op 12.60€I don't pay 30+€.
