Woodhousee
My daughter is spending a year in France as part of her course. She needs ongoing medication. She, and I, am worried as how she will get this. I thought her university would help more but they have not. I am contacting the organisations in the UK, but I would appreciate hearing from anyone in France, involved in diabetes care.
Owen
Hello, I have no personal experience of diabetes but I do not think you should worry unduly. Your daughter should obtain E128 from Newcastle. If the stay in France is an integral part of her course then this will cover her for up to two years. With E128 and proof of her residence/student status she will be able to affiliate to CPAM. She will then have the same level of cover as as any other French resident. If she is insulin dependant she should be covered 100% for all her diabetes treatment including periodic checks by a specialist. This should also be the case if she is not insulin dependant but is on more than one regime of medication. But a final decison on the level of cover can only be established once she has been examined by a doctor here in France. If she is only on tablets then her medication may NOT be covered 100% but at least 65% cover will be available.RegardsPeter Owenpjowen@expathealthdirect.co.uk
