Am still in the early days of planning to by a home in France. Please can someone give me some advice as I am a paraplegic and wheelchair user. Hence this I am on a lot of medication and need to see the French equivalent of District Nurse from time to time. I keep relatively well but need to be checked over once a year at a Spinal Unit. Please can someone tell me how I can go about this or would I have to travel back to England to my specialist here.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Paraplegia is one of the conditions that can qualify for 100% cover by the CPAM. But you would have to be assessed by a doctor in France and a case submitted to the CPAM before 100% was granted.

I would further advise you that if you are in receipt of Long Term Incapacity Benefit and/or the now defunct Severe Disablement Allowance you will be able to affiliate to the CPAM via E121. If you are in receipt of Disability Living Allowance this will not normally continue to be paid on a move to France unless you were in reecipt of this before 1 June 1992, In short, you need to check on the continued payment of any allowances with your Benefits office
on a move to France.

I am fairly new to the french health system but hope i can give you a bit of info and I am sure that some body else will offer more.
We have a young daughter with a multi disciplined long term health problem. We visited a Doctor(just asked my french neighbour where she went) The doctor recomended we saw a paeditrician(in the same centre medico) who in turn after a very thorough exam of her and a lot of talking and asking questions recomended that we visit a specialist hospital(Montpellier) for further tests and to assess what tratment /checkups etc she will need(not been yet...2 weeks to go) it all looks very promising and we have been very impressed .
Hope this helps.
