Alexis
Of course, Teamed Up. Never gave health cover in the UK a thought. I had better apply for one.
Alexis
But I'm not a UK resident. Neither are you. Neither is Will.
Will
Am I missing something? Why would Will, who lives in France and has a carte vitale, need an E111? Are you classed as working in the UK or something Will? All you others? I have my carte and my mut...
Alexis - I need an E111 for visiting other EU countries - e.g. this year Netherlands, Italy, Germany, plus (although not in EU it is still part of the E111 scheme) Norway. And although I don't strictly need one to go to Britain I agree with others who think it could be useful to prove entitlement to health care there. The E forms are Europe-wide, not just applicable to Britain. Miki
E111's are for any EU national living in any country in the EEC. We have had a "French" E111 for many years. Now of course in plastic card style. Although not strictly required in the UK (free treatment at point of entry and all that in UK !)many of us feel it might still be sensible to have one with you. What about appointments at the doctors in the UK ? We know that some UK Doctors have charged French (and ex-pats)for a visit, I guess one claims that sum back from CPAM or whoever here on ones return?Edit : Sorry for any repetition but Bill was "on the button" slightly quicker !! Teamedup
OK, we are in the french system and if we say travel to Holland or Denmark or Germany etc etc and take ill we will hand in our french E Health Cards (as that is what they are issuing now rather than the E111) and we will be treat as any resident of that country would. The E Health cards (and former E111's) cover for health care not only in all EU countries but some that are not in the EU. And do we need one when in the UK? As yet I have never been asked for one, but I did phone Newcastle and the Ministry of Health and we could well be asked for them now as we are non residents and if we don't have one may have to pay for treatment. We always travel with them now, although not too long ago the Caisse Maladie wouldn't issue them for those travelling to the UK as THEN they were not necessary. It boils down to it, they are for all EU citizens who travel and not just for brits coming to France. If that isn't clear, I'm sorry, maybe someone else can explain better TU EDIT LOL neither Will the C or Miki had posted when I started my reply. Miki
You can order the card from CPAM or for others, your normal social security organisation.By the way, we now have another acronym here in France (we just don't have enough eh!) La carte européenne d'assurance maladie (CEAM). NOT E111 anymore !Is mucho grassyarse the same one as the Matador from Madrid ?
Teamedup
Alexis, if all your family is travelling do you realise that you all need one of these cards each, they only seem to last a year in France though.
