Numberfive
Hello;Does anyone have any experience with cataract operations in France. In particular the care and the cost as we do not have supplimentary medical insurance. We are both over sixty, and have a Carte Vitale. Other half is allowed his blood pressure medication at no cost, my medication which is for a life-long affliction has to be paid for. Anyone have the vaguest idea why?Thank you
Val_2
I suggest you get some mutuelle cover straightaway if you intend to have operations in France. Having two retired engish friends have cataracts removed since the summer I can tell you that with at least three visits to the surgeon before and after the job, hospital stay of a minimum of one day, pain killers etc and various changes to your spectacles if you wear them, you will be sorely out of pocket. You can get reciprocal cover via your pensions/NI contributions inthe UK hence your Carte Vitale but this only covers part of the true cost and you must find the other 50% minimum. Teamedup
Also remember that some mutualists don't cover for the first three months either.
