health cover . . . again

We have been living in france for 3 years and living on my modest private pension.

I am in my late 50's and my wife is just 60. We are in the French health system and registered for tax, butas our income is quite low, we don't qualify to pay French income tax.

It  has been suggested that as our income is quite low we do not need to purchase a top up health insurance as the French health service will not refuse medical treatment because of inability to pay.

Can anybody advise us on this?

Regards

So just what health cover have you had in the last 3 years?

Did you not have  top up cover when you had your 2 year cover from Newcastle?

What did you have when your E whatever ran out?

Did no one contact you to ask you to start paying into the French health system ?

whether you can get cheap healthcare rather depends on your income.

BTW respect for knowing about Sirius Black at your age !!!!

You may qualify for Couverture Maladie Universelle (CMU) if you are on low income.  Your CPAM should be able to advise you.

You could try here for info relating to your particular situation:

They also have an English-speaking helpline which even takes calls from outside their area.  Pity not all CPAMs do the same.

PS I can't stand Harry Potter.
