Phil
My wife and I are both retired (though not yet of retirement age, but not working) and following our early retirement, moved to live permanently in France 18 months ago. We are covered by my E106 until Dec 31 2006. We completed a tax return for the French system for year 2005 and have since received a bill from 'Contributions Sociales' for Social Service contributions. We were under the impression that as we are covered by the E106, we would not need to make such contributions. We are registered with CPAM and have received our Carte Vitales. We have read many letters and articles in magazines and newspapers, and they seem to suggest the same thing. Can anybody clarify the situation for us please. PS Next year my wife will receive her E121, and once again, we assume this will protect us from contributions - right or wrong?
andyh4
wrong I am afraid social contributions are different to health payments and apply to all French residents.
Ron Avery
This has been covered a lot recently as people start to receive the social contributionss bills, few know about them before coming here and they are often a nasty surprise, have a look at the threadhttp://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/767710/ShowPost.aspxI know itS a bit skewed being "taxed" additionally on your savings on top of income tax but look upon it as your contribution towards those less fortunate than yourself and for the good of your adopted country[:D]
Clair
As a few contributors have previously done, you sem to be confusing two aspects of socila contributions. As a very simplified explanation:the "Contributions Sociales" you are referring to are a form of taxation applied to most income which is not earned (interest earned from saving accounts, rental income declared separately from salaried employment...)The E106/E121 refer to the French national health cover ("Sécurité sociale"), equivalent to National Health in the UK.They are very seperate matters.PS: I see Ron as also covered this...
