eye care

I understand that eye care is not the best part of the French medical system. I have Fuch's polychromatic syndrome and used to visit an eye specialist in England. I think I should have a check up. Should I contact an opthamologist or is there a classification nearer specialist. I need a fields test. Would an opthamologist do this?

What you say about the French system is arguably true where routine eye tests and examinations are concerned, although things do seem to be changing for the better. I do think things are rather better for emergency or specialised eye care.  I have no knowledge about the condition or tests you mention, but think your best course of action would be to first see your normal doctor in France, who can then refer you to a specialist - who might or might not be an opthalmologue. Although there are some categories of medicine where you can go direct, and opthalmology is one of these, the GP would be your best first contact.

Hi here in Villedieu les Poeles we have they say the best clinic for eye treatment in perhaps the whole of the north of France.  Certainly our experience with them has been superb and we have gone direct.

Earlier this year I had a problem went to see one Dr Haddad then came the drops etc then came the examination then the diagnoses you have the beginning of a detached retina.  When can I have the treatment..................Are you being driven today..............yes.....ok...........we will do it now.

Ten minutes later and after laser left with a bill for 120 euros which was picked up by the state and by our complimentaire.
