Bannon
What is the situation if, living in France we require health care in the UK? We pay tax here in France and both the wife an I have one of those green health cards. Can we for example call in on any UK health care centre and ask to see a medic? Thanks guys. cooperlola
You need to apply to your local CPAM for a "Carte Europeene d'Assurance Maladie". This will entitle to you to medical treatment in other European countries, including the UK. How much cover you can expect in each country is dependent upon their own health care policy - ie in the UK it's free but it may be different elsewhere in Europe. However, you should note that it is designed for travel only. You can't use it to go back to the UK for, say, long term treatment or an operation.
suein56
And you need to keep an eye on the expiry date as, unlike the equivalent card in the UK, each one only lasts for 1 year. You can order a renewal by phone though - handy if you live at a distance from your local CPAM office. In either case they are posted to your home and usually arrive about 7 - 10 days after your request.Sue
