Geoff
I have lived in France for 7 years, and have nver made any claim on the state. No tax is chargeable to my income. I am 100% entitled medically -long term illness. Can anyone advise me if there is any other entitlement, apart from Tax allowance, which would be of no benefit to me. Many thanks
5-element
It depends on your 100% medical condition. If it is disabling enough for you to be eligible for 80% disability, then you can obtain allocation adulte handicapé (assuming you are totally in the French health system). Be aware that disability has to be severe for the 80% to be granted. You apply to COTOREP via CPAM or your CAF. A social worker should be able to tell you. Your médecin traitant should be able to tell you if your disability might warrant AAH eligibility.Otherwise, you might be able to get a disabled badge, (again, depending on degree and nature of disability), sometimes useful for parking. Âme
You can start the process by applying for a carte d'invalidite. There are several benefits for holders including reductions to tax d'habitation reduction and audio-visuelle, a blue badge for parking... I think that it is also the first step towards getting AAH.This information page is quite useful and will help you to find the agencies you need... find the corresponding page for your region to get the correct local addresses. Best wishes.
Sunday Driver
If do manage to obtain a French invalidity card and your taxable income is less than 9,560€ for a single person or 14,666 for a couple, then you'd be exempt from tax d'habitation and TV licence. You're equally exempt if you are aged 60 or over, or widowed, and you meet the same income requirements. It's applied automatically, so if you haven't got it, you're not old enought yet.....Finally, not disability related, but if you pay no tax and use oil for your central heating, then you're entitled to 200€ back from the impots.Details HERE.Edit: Ame beat me to it....[;-)]

Âme
Yes! you do have the detail and yes it applies to low income widow(er)s of any age. Thanks for posting it. Took me a while to plough through, a lot of the terms are new for me.Another note for Geoff; if you already had your long term illness when you came seven years ago, you might find this thread of interest. Geoff
Thank you all for your comments. Very useful. Ref comment from Sunday Driver - the taxable income figures mentioned I presume is before tax allowance is taken into consideration. Can you clarify. Many thanks. Like many living in France and other European countries, it must be tough with the massive devaluation of sterling, and means you have to explore every avenue to survive.
