newbiee
I applied for my CV in my own name (I am married but retain my original name). I signed the forms in my name and a copy of my marraige certificate was asked for. When my attestation arrived, some kindly soul had decided to change my name to that of my husband's! French paperwork frightens me! Will I be setting the cat amounst the pigeons if I remind them that my name is not the same name as my husband's as per the application I signed in my own name? Shall I just give up my own identity and assume my husbands???! [Www] EDIT thanks WillNB ... .... I changed my original post when I realised a lot of the information was given in another posting. Will's was answering my original posting at the same time as I was changing it.
Will
The attestation is the important document. It has your social security number (may be a temporary one, but a valid number all the same) which allows you to reclaim the cost of health treatment and medications and subscribe to a top-up policy. The carte vitale is merely a piece of plastic which eases the process of paying and/or reclaiming. To continue in the system you will need either a renewed E106 or a letter refusing renewal, and maybe evidence that you were in the system prior to November 2007. AnOther
The attestation should be in the name of the person with the E106 who applied for it with other qualifying persons added.I have no idea why it's been put in your OH's name, a touch of chauvinism on somebody's part perhaps [blink]It could be moot anyway because as Will says you need a new one or a letter of refusal. Whichever it is you should apply right now because it runs out in January and what with Xmas and all could take a few weeks to get a reply so you could risk being left out in the cold. Âme
Hi Newbiee. It's a curious system where if you use your husband's name you are required to provide maiden name and marriage certificate to prove the name change, but when you use your maiden name it gets changed to your husband's. What can you do? [8-)] Personally, I've been travelling under the OH's name for so long that there is now no reference to my maiden name on my UK issued passport, however all my French documents (tax letters, health ince, bank a/c...) have the maiden name on them, underneath the married name.In your position, I might be inclined to sort this out, on the basis that, at some point, you'll need an EHIC card from France, to travel abroad. This then won't match your passport & might cause problems when you least need them. I wish you good luck with the paperwork. [;-)]
Will
What Ernie says is correct (as you acknowledge, the post as it appears now is worded slightly differently from that to which I first replied). It may be that you are both on the same E106, as Ernie suggests, or it may be a simple error. It seems unusual because for so many things in France the wife's 'nom de jeune fille' is used, often in addition to the married name. (Edit - as the post above says, which appeared while I was looking up the info for this one [;-)])If you are worried about it, ask CPAM. If language is a problem, there is an English-speaking help line on 0811 363 646 (0900-1800 French time). Note that this number has been changed, and a different number appears in many other places. Ron Avery
If you retain your maiden name for "professional purposes" and then do everything as if one was single but actually married, how would that work for income tax returns and CMU payments? Don't you still have to complete one tax return per household? Is it possible for one party say to submit a return for their individual income and the other with a different name to submit a different but perhaps lower income tax return for the purpose of claiming assistance with fuel bills etc for example? KathyC
I'm in exactly the same position as the OP and have decided to give up and use my husband's name after 20 years of marriage. I don't know whether I'm being feeble or not but I don't really feel that I have the energy to fight it at present and actually rather like having a new identity in a new country! Good luck to you if you decide to persevere with this, I'm not suggesting you do what I've done, just relating my experience.
