colon cancer test

Recommended Posts

I went to the Doc's today for a repeat prescription and he told me about this screening for colon cancer. He gave me a little packet with instructions, and at the time I didn't really understand what it entails.

So now I do [+o(] But it's a good thing really. I wonder how many people will go through with it?

Anyone else participating?

Husband has to have a colonoscopy as he had some problem in the past.
We've not received anything for the test, neither has anyone we know. Is it still being rolled out nationally?
I posted this last year:

Piloted in 23 pilot departments since 2003, bowel

cancer screening in persons aged between the ages of 50 and 74 will be

extended to the whole of France by the end of 2008.

Conducted every two years, the screening consists of a test for blood in the stool.

Persons between the ages of 50 and 74 will be invited to visit

their GP's surgery for an assessment, which will determinate whether a test test is appropriate. The

test result is negative in 97% of cases.

In case of a positive result, the GP

would prescribed a colonoscopy to confirm or deny the presence of

anomalies in the colon or rectum.

The cost of the test and its analysis will be totally covered by the health authorities.

I took this in my Région 5years ago.

I was diagnosed with a possible problem and now have a coloscopy every two years .

They have already found and removed 7 pre-cancerous polyps which if they had been left could have been fatal ( as was the case with 3 of my close family).

Don't hesitate even if it is a bit fiddly and a bit embarrassing

It could save your life

Anyone over 50 who would like to get in on the scheme, and has not been registered, should go to their médecin traitant to get registered. It is not just a matter of  putting tiny quantities of  fecal matter on a slide, you have to have the samples analysed by a lab to know what the results are!

The thought did occur to me Pierre. But it says in the instructions you should let the "lentille" dry out completely before putting it in the poche. How big is a lentille? By the time it's dry it should be smell-free.

About 10 years ago I took part in a survey in the UK where they gave you a colonoscopy. I had to prepare for it at home and remember going to the hospital on the bus, hoping there wouldn't be an "accident."

You have to keep them within the red squares. The laws of objects that are too tall falling over will help you decide on the third dimension. If in doubt take the sample into your store cupboard where you should find packets/jars of lentils with which you may compare your offering.

I coped on the requisite 3 occasions so the you intelligent peeps will have no probs.

Hope that you are as negative as I am.

John
These are now available over the counter at chemists in the UK. Under £10, so if  the roll out hasn't reached you yet and you want to take the test, ask someone in the UK to send one out.

Also available in pharmacies in France, saw it recently.
