Théière
There should always be a manual key point on those shutters for emergency use
Gardengirl
We have an electric shutter in the living room at our apartment, as have all the other 49. I've wondered how people escape if it becomes necessary, as many modern homes are fitted with them in more rooms. We don't have a manual over-ride button, but do have a manual shutter in the kitchen. This place is only 2 years old, so not out of the ark; are there any regulations on this?
Swissie
Never thought of this - surely there should be an overide button - scary.
suein56
I've wondered how people escape if it becomes necessary, as many modern homes are fitted with them in more rooms.
Some friends of ours survived a fire at their home only because they escaped by knotting sheets/duvet covers, and exiting via the small, first floor window of the wc; the only room where the electric shutter was not closed. Due to the heat of the fire the electrics went down so it was not possible to open any of the shutters on any of the other first floor windows. They never found any remnants of their dog, who raised the alarm initially, as the fire was so intense.Nowadays they always leave a larger window unshuttered at night when they are at home. We always leave at least one window unshuttered, even in the depths of winter.Sue
