Frederick
After my grandaughter aged 19 went down with what her doctor said was "measels " just before Xmas and confined her to the house for week .I thought it odd as she has had the jabs .. Talking to her about it and asking her what she had been doing proir to the rash.. I discovered she had been in the hot tub a few days before ... I have now discovered that people can become allergic to the chemical used in the hot tub water .There is now an allergy called "Hot tub rash " . Isn't the internet great ! The chemical that causes it is mentioned on this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el_IWR1xPng

Frederick
Thanks for chopping bits out of my post to try and make something else out of it Benjamin .. I take it unlike many on this forum who own one you do not have a hot tub so the information meant nothing to you ?
Théière
Frederick, you are obviously concerned for your grandaughters health and under the circumstances quite rightly so. Can you find out from the owner of the hot tub what chemicals (if any) they use. It is far more common for reactions to be caused by a build up of disinfection byproducts or by overdosing of chemicals or indeed a poorly maintained PH level. I was using potassium peroxymonosulfate (MPS for short) without issue in my pool, however it is only an oxidising agent not a disinfectant so some bacteria could grow unchecked and as the loading of bodies to the volume of the water is way above a swimming pool problems can easily and quickly occur. If you could find out more it would be helpful. Frederick
Theiere ... The family is on holiday in the snow at the moment will find out more when they get back ...My son in law suggested after we decided the hot tub was the cause of her rash it was because she had not "Shocked " it . It had been on "sleep mode " for some time .. if that helps ?
Théière
It could well be, better to empty hot tubs when not in use rather than leave them to grow who knows what. That of course is conjecture until the facts are known but a little bit of chlorine or bromine goes a long way.
