Health cover

As my CPAM application makes its way through the system, it is time to start looking for the complementary health cover needed to fill the gaps, so, I wonder if more experienced members could chip in their thoughts please on the following questions:

What key areas need to be covered by a top up?

What companies are used by members with what experience?

Do companies load premiums for existing conditions?

Muchos grassyarse!

So, I'll have to lie about my age.

More than normal???? IDBI.  [:P]

Try the MAAF office in one of the streets running North off Nappy Square. Always found them OK. The problem with most top ups is you don't find out how good they really are until you claim. Very fast payout on normal re-imbursements.

It's rather an individual thing depending on what you anticipate needing

I believe you are diabetic, and although they can't take that into account you should in choosing a cover that  allows for possible complications later..for example problems with vision or with the legs ..

These could involve a stay in Hospital.

I have posted before on some of the drawbacks.

Look at the small print before you sign up....and that is the Paper version, not what you see on-line.

For example see if there are unexpected limitations on how many days 'forfait journalier' is paid in case of an extended  Hospital stay, and which sorts of establishments are covered.

Sometimes a 'chambre particulière' will be covered in a Hospital but not in a 'Maison de repos'

I got caught out on both of those, even though the website seemed to suggest something different.

I'm sure you understand the implications of 200% cover etc, but if you don't shout and I'll explain again.

You need your Mutuelle to cover the things that the Sécu don't, so for example 'Dépassement des Horaires' by specialists, 'chambre particulière' 'forfait journalier' as well as the extras for Specs and dental work.

Most seem to give you the 'tiers payant' so you don't have to fork out too much in advance. In my case the part I need to pay is reimbursed in under a week on average.

I have an 'appareil pour les  apnées de someil '  that is covered by my Mutuelle, under'petit appareillage '

Some have a basic cover, with optional modules of extras.

I pay around 70€ and am about your age, but am seriously thinking of upping this to  around 120€ to get a better cover after my big bill from the 'Maison de repos' which my present Mutuelle didn't cover.

In fact they have just sent me a bill for an extra 252€ for 14 days 'forfait journalier'they say they overpaid ..

Here is my cover (which as I say I now regard as insufficient)

mine is Force 600
Thank you guys for your suggestions and Norman for the detailed reply. I'll start hunying this weekend and see what I turn up. Trouble is the weather is too good!
Have a look on http://www.assurland.com/assurance-sante.html - it will give you an idea of cover / prices / etc.

Second the feedback on MAAF - but (fingers crossed) never had to test the service in anger, just regular, GP-type stuff.
