NormanH
You can report the loss on-line and ask for a replacement. For that you connect to your online ameli.fr account here:https://assure.ameli.fr/PortailAS/appmanager/PortailAS/assure?_somtc=trueand go to the section Mes demandes / Perte - vol de carte VitaleYou will then have to wait for them to send you a pre filled in form which you sign to say the details are correct (possibly with replacement photos.to stick in the space provided..I had to, but my previous card didn’t have them so I might be different)The details are here:http://www.ameli.fr/assures/soins-et-remboursements/comment-etre-rembourse/la-carte-vitale/declarer-la-perte-ou-le-vol-de-votre-carte-vitale.phpIn the mean time the paper 'attestation' that came with the card can be used to prove that you are entitled to care. The carte itself is just a useful piece of plastic that speeds up the reimbursement

NormanH
Have you previously registered with them to have access to that site? They send you the password by mail. You can't just use your own.If you haven't done that then you can't get in with just your SS number, so in that case yes you would need to go and see them.It would be worth registering if you haven't, because you can get a good idea of all sorts of things such as how much you have been reimbursed and if they will be keeping back anything to cover pharmacy items you didn't have to pay for when you collected them.
