Mac
I'm trying to help a friend who has just turned 65 and got his OAP. He has been in the French health service with a carte vital for some years but now wants to get his S1. I am not sure which dept in the UK he spoke to but he was told he's not eligible for an S1 as he's already in the French health system. I know this isn't right as he has no pension paid by France-all his pensions are UK (military and his OAP) but I can't find the exact pages I need on the govt. websites so he can go back to them armed with the correct information. I've tried gov.uk and the NHS website but it's like wading through mud. Can anyone point me to the correct place to find information? TIA
Lehaut
I have just turned that special age and am in the same position pension wise as your pal.. Rang Overseas Healthcare Team, +44191218199 and spoke to a nice lady called Ruth. She took my details, then asked to speak to my wife, which she did and took her details. She also asked to speak to our children, but that was not possible as they were at Uni. We are all in the French system. That was on 11 Aug this year. The Team issued the S1 on 16 Aug with the S1 for both my wife and I. It got here a few days later.
EuroTrash
As long as he hasn't been working and paying contributions in France since leaving the UK he is entitled to an S1. EU rules are herehttp://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/health/when-living-abroad/health-insurance-cover/index_en.htmclick on Pensioner and it saysIf you receive a pension from the country where you live: you and your family are covered by that country's healthcare insurance system — whether or not you are also receiving pensions from other countries. If you do not receive a pension or any other income from the country where you live: you belong to the healthcare insurance system of the country where you were insured for the longest period of time. Lehaut
How very interesting idun you thought that. Been here for 21 years, but never worked in an official capacity. Both wife and I paid the voluntary stamp to top up the OAP.
