US military emails

Recommended Posts

A bit of an obscure question but someone may know the answer.

I've recently received enquiries about my B&B from US soldiers based in Germany. I reply to their email address and then about a day later I get a message saying the mail could not be delivered for the following reason:

The SMTP Server program
: connect to
1ad1exch4.hq.1ad.army.mil: Connection timed out

This has happened with each email I've sent to a military address but with no others.

It's (a) a little annoying because I'm losing out on bookings and (b) a shame because this last one in particular was for this weekend, the soldier said it had always been his dream to visit the Normandy landing beaches and he was very excited because he had got a weekend leave so close to the D-Day anniversary. He will think I didn't even bother to contact him, when in fact I have sent two emails, both saying that I had room for him tonight!

Could it perhaps be some kind of firewall preventing them from receiving spam, or some kind of security because they are military?

Anyone any ideas?

It will be there firewall. I have friends in the U.S. Intel service and there system blocks a lots of e-mails that do not end DOT.COM. Your best bet is to open a free email account at Yahoo.com and on your mail prog put in a new account as you would for your service provider, i.e smtp.tiscali.fr, account name with your new address i.e. coco@yahoo.com and than just make up a pop server. i.e. pop.dsfhbdkj.com. This will enable you to send mail from outlook, eudora etc. than you can go online to read new mail or put a header on that say's please reply to coco@tiscali.fr.
Plus DO NOT add attachments on your email or have very large emails this will also get them binned.
