LesLauriers
On an analogue connection FT do not guarantee internet connection speeds. Switch either to ISDN (Numeris) or Broadband if available. Alternatively try taking up knitting between downloads! Mine dropped to 9kbps before I gave up and switched to ISDN.
Steve Last
You might want to consider Onspeed (www.onspeed.com) which has been highly recommended as a substitute for broadband for some purposes and may be useful to you if you can't get or don't want to pay for BB. Essentially it is a service which reroutes all your ISP traffic through its own servers where it is highly compressed before retransmitting it. Results in some loss of graphics quality on web pages but seems to give much faster page loading. It's a subscription service at about 35 Euros a year. One drawback is the basic principle of having your email go through someone else's servers before getting to you but that may not bother you. See also the topic "Wanadoo Booster package" for more on this. Steve
Kennet
We've had adsl here near Guingamp, Brittany for a couple of weeks now via Tiscali.....great 655.2kps. After months of waiting we still had problems for a week connecting, even today we were offline for a couple of hours. A few days after getting on, a friend emailed the address of a site thats supposed to speed up your dial up. Just like waiting an hour for a bus, then two come along together. If you're on dial up or have slow speeds, it might be worth checking it out to see what you think. Its www.hispeedband.com
