Telephones & ansaphones

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We have several telephone points around the house and just one telephone at the moment. We'd like to buy a couple more cheap handsets and an answering machine. In the UK this wouldn't be a problem but what with the french system being a little different to ours, and the information leaflet possibly only in french, it would be great if someone could suggest a supplier or particular brand. Is there anything in particular we ought to avoid or look out for?

We're not particularly keen on cordless phones as the reception doesn't seem to be very good through the stone walls, and the handsets get lost!

An alternative to getting an ansaphone might be to activate the France Telecom message system. Has anyone mastered it?

Thanks ,

F24.

Cordless phones( we have 3) seem to work fine in our stone house and outside upto about 10m. Best bet is to get an answer phone instead of FT service. Cheaper in the long run and you can change the message whenever you want and have a much longer message. We have ours in both French and English.

Easy ! it's called 'Top Message' and you can subscribe to it (free) online. There is also somewhere on the FT site where you can order a copy of the top message instruction book. It's in French, of course, but it's easy enough to follow.

You can adjust the number of rings before it kicks in, you can record your own message for no answer, a different one for engaged, you can pick up your messages remotely, you never forget to turn it on when you leave the house, It's free, What's not to like ????

I've lost it since migrating to ISDN and would have it back in a flash if I could.
