Richard-R
Most supermarkets sell cheap modem jacks, French phone plug one end and moden plug the other, if you cannot find one a cheap phone will the the job, just unplug the cable that goes into the phone and plug it into your computer. Ecossais
This has been mentioned a few times in the “old” forum, although I cant find the threads. If your telephone or modem has a removable line cord you can replace it with a French cord – you should be able to get one in the electrical department of a hypermarket or an electrical / telecoms shop. However be aware that a British telephone MIGHT not ring when connected to a French socket. A British socket has a capacitor and other components which make the ringer work. (You would still be able to make / answer calls even if the phone doesn’t ring). Another way is to leave the UK / BT lead on your telephone or fax and connect up a UK master telephone socket to the French socket with a short length of telephone cable. (You’ll have to take the top off the FT socket).Make sure you buy a “master socket” with screw terminals as this contains the components to make your UK spec phone ring. You should be able to buy one from Maplin or any other electronics type shop for about £4.Its quite easy to wire up - connect terminals 2 and 5 in the UK / BT socket to the top 2 terminals on the left side inside the French socket.
