HELP! Lost BBC and ITV signal

Recommended Posts

We have visited our holiday home this week and have lost our BBC and ITV channels.  We view through a sky PACE minibox with one of those £30 FTV cards (ie no SKy subscription).

We are still getting Ch4 and Ch5 and the rubbish channels, but no BBC channels or BBC radio stations or ITV.  Error message on channel comes up as " No signal being received".

Have tried re-booting to no avail. Is this likely to be purely a case of having to adjust the dish, or have a got a bigger problem?

Any ideas? Thanks.

Sarah

Could be the dish, we have had some very strong winds recently, check the signal strength on the set up/installation menu, but I get this exact problem from time to time with Channel 4, all I do is unplug the digi-box for 5 minutes, not just turn it off, plug it back in and turn on, it has come back every time......  so far

It sounds like your dish/lnb is slightly missaligned and not getting Astra 2D as all the ITV and BBC programs are now on that one.

Ch4 and Ch5 are on Astra 2 north beam.

Using the service settings on the digibox will give you good alignment for 2 north beam but lousy alignment for 2D.

If you don't have signal strength meter, resetting the dish is goig to be a bit long winded but you can use this trick:

On your Digibox press Services, 4, 0, 1, Select. This gets you the installers menu.

Then choose 5 to get manual tuning.

Enter the frequency for BBC1 (London) 10.773

Polarization H

Symbol Rate 22000

FEC 5/6

And select 'find channels'

This should give you a screen similar to teh normal test screen.

Now adjust the dish to get best signal strength. Just pressing gently on the edge of the dish will be enough...you probably are only going to have a movement of 2mm max to get the signal. (do it from the back of the dish and don't get your hand anywhere in the volume between the dish and the LNB)

Once you get max signal rotate the LNB to get best 'siganl quality'.

That should get you you BBC and ITV back.

PS if you have a meter put it in circuit and set the digibox as above. This will force the tuning to the BBC channels and tune for max whistle. Fine tuning should be done with the on screen menu.

Best of luck

Colin

Another PS. If you're located anywhere in the south, say Dordogne lattitude south, consider installing an 80cm dish. This is because the 2D sattelite is beamed on the UK and Astra recommends an 80cm for in the South of France area.
