Chrissie
Just thought I'd post this if it can save someone going through the aggro we've had!We decided to raise our internet speed and were assured that our existing line and Modem would support up to 2048Kbs or whatever. To our horror, the minute the new forfait took effect we lost our internet access totally.Won't go through the details of the next three weeks of lengthy, expensive and frustrating calls to Wanadoo Assistance and FT, in which we swore we had installed everything as it should be, had filters on all phone sockets, had no peculiar phones on the system, etc etc. Today an FT guy came to the house, opened the first (unused) phone socket on the circuit and removed a box about 1 inch by half an inch, which was an FT device to enable remote line testing, but was outdated. This apparently is a "well-known" problem in older houses and will give a "line OK" signal whilst simultaneously blocking high-speed access. (If it was that well-known, why didn't they think to check sooner???)Anyway, we've got almost 250 e-mails to go through now.......Chrissie
