maxsan
There are a lot of these tv tuner cards on the market at present and they are also useful for converting analogue video to digital etc. What I am not sure of is if i want to watch tv on my pc/laptop, do I need a freeview card and digibox, or can I bring the feed straight in from the dish to the tuner card. I know I can watch terrestrial tv via an ordinairy antenna, but it is the satellite tv I am interested in.
Anton Redman
Last time I checked specifications, I did not find any digital decoder PC add ons in UK or France. No technical reason why it cannot be done for FTA as opposed to FTV cards which at present would limit you to UK Radio, Horror Channel, BBc!, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, CBBC. No likelyhood of Sky releasing their encryption technology either so ITV TCM etc not likely to be available in immediate future.
maxsan
Mmm, thanks for that Anton. do you mean that satellite delivered FTA would be ok here in france, given of course the correct link up. and do you know if a decoder would be needed or woud it work straight into the card. I know a lot about pc's but this is the first time I have delved into pc tuner cards.
Anton Redman
All the PC Cardds I found were basically tuners for terrestrial TV. Try searching on 'Haupauge' ? spelling using google as they used to publish full details of their cards. If they say Pal or Secam they are almost bound to be terrestrial. You can get digital tv receivers built on a PCI card which will fit into a spare slot on your computer. They are also available with USB connection. You will find them at your local satellite specialist shop.Bryn
