Has our dish given up the ghost?

Recommended Posts

We have two dishes on our house, an analogue one which receives French terrestrial channels and a Metronics digital one which receives UK free to air channels (BBC1,2,3,4, News24, CNN, ITV3).  Some friends arrived last night so we turned the TV off and when we turned it on this morning - NOTHING.  No power light, black screen, nothing.  We've tried unplugging the whole unit, leaving it for 30 minutes and trying again but still no power light.  The French TV is working.

Is it likely to be the unit that has given up the ghost and we need to take it back to Mr Bricolage (we've only had it since October) or has anyone else experienced a similar problem and knows the solution?

I've since been told that the signal light is on (so presumably not a problem with the dish itself) but not the power light. ????

And it's The Apprentice tonight!!!!!

I'm a little puzzled about having a dish to receive terrestrial channels.  Do you mean an aerial, or are you referring to the analogue channels on satellite at 5 west?

Without seeing your digital receiver it is difficult to say what the problem is.  However, if you have another satellite dish pointing at 5 west you could connect your Metronics receiver to that and tune in to the France TV digital channels - France 2, France 5, Festival, Arte etc. - assuming you have a dual band lnb on your dish.  If not, there is Italia Channel that is on a higher frequency so you should be able to receive that.  If you are unable to receive any of these channels then it would appear that your Metronics receiver is faulty.  If you are able to get these channels then it is likely your lnb is faulty, or a problem with your coaxial cable, or the f plug connections to your receiver or lnb.

Thanks for the reply Robbie.  We have a dish to receive UK terrestrial channels from Astra 28.2 (or whaever it is)  We have another analogue dish (53€ Mr. Bricolage) to receive the French terrestrial channels (cheaper than getting a man on the roof with an aerial!!

In the end we took the box back to Bricomarche because it's still under guarantee and they tested it in the shop and it is officially kaput!  So no UK TV for a week till a replacement arrives!
