Patmobile
When I use noadware to scan my computer for unauthorised cookies and spyware, I noticed that it appears to be reading a lot of .pif and .scr files that I can't find anywhere on the machine when searching with Windows Explorer. If these files are really there I want to get rid of them because I can tell by the titles they shouldn't be there. Fat Elvis.pif and Crazy frog.pif are two of the printable titles. Many of the others sound like porn to me. How they got there is a mystery. But, here's the problem. How do I find them to delete them? They appear to be in C:\\ and d:\\, but d: is a cd drive with no disk in it, and I cant find any .pifs or .scrs on the c drive that shouldn't be there. How come noadware sees them but nothing else can?Patrick
BJSLIV
Could this be your problem?http://www.adwarereport.com/mt/archives/000023.htmlIt seems to have a patchy reputation.

I'm un-installing it immediately and buying something better.Hopefully I won't see those file names running through the status bar during scans again.Best advice seems to be - DO NOT BUY NOADWARE!Patrick
Ron Avery
Pat STOPI am not sure you have the files you list, if you use the much respected SKYBOT you get a similar listing across the screen as it scans your files, I was alarmed by some that went through like "Dialer XXX, Hacker, teensex and XXX dial" But these are NOT files on your PC , it is the files and programs that are being looked for by the checkIf you do not get any of these files listed as problems following your check, it means that you do not have themBefore you bin your software, check with the manufacturer, .scr files are screen savers and are in control panel if you want to check any of them. willmorgan
Hi, Dont know if it's of any help, but I have been using Ad-Aware SE Personal edition for some years and it apprears to do the job. If you go to http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 you can read the reviews before downloading - best thing is it's free, although there is an upgrade with more features that does cost.
