Russethouse
We have been asked to set up an ftp 'site' so we can 'share' graphics with our client. I thought ftp was a file transfer protocol, just a way to get a file onto your web space.Even googling hasn't helped, I'm still not very clear....I'm sorry I know this isn't France related but know people here can explain in language I might understand.BTW Its for a Mac
Will
We use FTP sites a lot in magazine publishing. Photo libraries, PR agencies and the like have them. As far as we are concerned, it's a site, or a section of another site, where you normally have to log in (for security) and from which you can download things like high-resolution picture files (that in the case of a photo library might need to be paid for, or that you are happy for journalists to have but would prefer not to be made generally available). Not sure why they are called FTP sites because in most cases you don't need an FTP client program to download the content, we just do it with a suitable web browser like Internet Explorer. Mpprh
HiWill is correct.I use a free FTP software called coffee cup (available here : http://www.coffeecup.com/ .As well as using it for uploading websites, you often need it for transferring large image files. NASA offers a free photo service ( http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/clickmap/  via FTP and has pretty good instructions on how to use it.Peter
