Ebay - changing the billing currency

Recommended Posts

I've tried to get an answer on this from Ebay but for the eighth time now they've just sent me cut and paste replies on instructions to do it without answering the specific problem.

Has anyone successfully changed there billing currency from Sterling to Euros. Every time I try it the verification page produces nonesense, like country - Netherlands, and even correcting the information on that page and submitting it, the next page doesn't load.

I'm presuming this may be a result of me originally registering with Ebay UK, causing a software glitch. Although I've changed the registration to Ebay France the problem continues. I know some others on the board have done this, did you have the same problem, how did you get round it ?

Unless it's changed you end up paying exchange fees every month.

If you log into the Ebay.fr site all items are in euros, unless you are accessing an item via E bay UK. As for charging, are you talking about Paypal? If it is Paypal, you have hit the nail on the head, you were with Ebay UK and now changed to E bay.fr, your registered card with E bay and Paypal is no doubt a UK card still and that is why you are quoted prices in sterling. Why change to E bay.fr anyway, nothing like the choice yet, you can stay with E bay UK, many sellers will post to France at reasonable rates. For payments, I keep a UK bank account and credit card account and service Paypal through one of those.

Thanks for your comments.

I have both UK and French Paypal so that isn't a problem. Most of my trading is in Europe therefore in Euros. If I leave it as it is I'll be paying Ebay an unecessary exchange fee every month. There is a facility on their site for switching billing currencies and registration, it just doesn't work and their customer service is hopeless  - quelle surprise.

E bay service is useless, as you say all you get is cut and paste answers, However, try the Community Board discussion boards,  you can post your query on there, you do not have to use your buyer/seller name on here, you may just find someone who knows the answer.

Ron,

For your information it can be done. After 3 weeks, 20 emails they were still answering my detailed question as if it were the first time and cutting and pasting instructions, evidently they don't read anything but the last email you send them. In the end I found myself that after reregistering to France and then choosing 'pay by cheque' first you can change the currency. Though I now count myself among those who will leap at the chance to trade elsewhere once rivals to Ebay establish decent alternative markets.
