SAP
We are thinking of moving to France, probably within the next year, but have not yet made a definite decision. We also want to purchase a new computer. Are there any problems with using a UK computer in France (eg power supply, internet connection, transportation, etc)? Or is it better to buy one in France (which would mean delaying the purchase)?Any advice would be appreciated.Sally and Martin
Dick Smith
I have used an iMac and several laptops - no problems at all, but you will need a French phone socket adaptor or internet cable, which is easily available.
Graham & Brenda
My UK computer works fine. There have been a number of such queries on this site in the past so have a search and you will find replies that cover the pros and cons of buying in UK/France.Graham
Anton Redman
Downside of buying in France : Unless you buy a DELL and ask for a QWERTY keyboard it will come is an AZERTY clavier which even if you hunt and peck with two digits is a real pain to use. Use of a Klavier always makes me ill temperedThe operating system and software will be in French. You will probably be able to to change the dictionary for the spell and grammer checkers to UK English. The error messes every bit as cryptic in French.Swopping plugs on power leads on takes five minutes or buy a UK fourgang extention and swop one plug. Modem to French Phone adaptors are off the shelf in most French Hypermarkets. At the moment French prices seem to be slightly lower than UK for instance ACER AL1913S 19 pouces (Inch) TFT screen only Euros 258 and HP P1120 21 inch 289 Euros but not enough to compensate for two problems above.
