power surge?

Recommended Posts

last saturday there was a loud crack from the corner where all our entertainment comes from (tv, 2 videos, dvd and digibox.

the english tv just disappeared (quelle horreur!) and the digibox was completely dead. have ordered a new one and were getting things ready to set it up again when we realised that one of the video recorders no longer works either.

was this a power surge do you think? (we ordered a surge protector at the same time as the new digibox just in case)

anybody out there in our area - 66 near perpignan - who experienced anything strange with their power supply on saturday?

anybody know whether the digibox and video recorder are likely to be repairable?

any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

by the way, our french and spanish have improved considerably since Saturday!

thanks for any help.

First try and find out from your neighbours if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Then call EDF on 0810 046 046 and ask for "un formulaire de réclamation". They will check with your local hub if a problem has occured and if so, will take your details and send you a form to declare your damaged items.

If this fails to bring any joy, read over your house insurance contract to check if you are covered for electrical faults (usually optional) and to what extent they are prepared to cover your losses (usually depends on age of the items and proof of purchase).

Good luck
