Satellite Navigation System Offer

Recommended Posts

If you’re thinking about buying a satellite navigation system for Christmas, you might be interested in the “Today’s Special Value” item on QVC UK.

They’re selling the Navman iCN 520 Premium Version for just under £300 on 3 months interest free credit.  This system is supplied with the UK street level map on an SD card and you also get street level maps of 16 European countries on CDs – you just need to copy whatever country map you want to use onto an SD card.

The standard UK version of the Navman iCN 520 sells for around £300 (Argos £250 / Dixons £300 / Halfords £350), so the Premium version with European maps and remote control looks like a good deal for £300.

If you buy one from QVC you've got until 25th January to try it out and send it back if you dont like it.  If you want more information have a look at:

There is currently a major problem with the French map for the ICN 520 ; the whole of department 09 (ariege) is missing.  This is a well known problem on french web discussions and I even confirmed this by trying one in Norauto a week or so ago - no 09 post code, foix etc can be found!!!

BTW in france you can get the ICN 520 for around euros350, rather than GPB300 - probably cheap because the map is no good.

I e-mailed them several weeks ago ,as have numerous others, as to when a new release of the map would be coming out - thus far no reply and no news of an update on their web site.

BTW comparing I tried out a Tomtom and found the userability quite a bit better and faster than the ICN520.

Richard,

Looks like there’s now a fix for the Ariege problem - http://www.lesnumeriques.com/news_id-1116.html

I’ve got TomTom Navigator 3 which I use with a PDA and find it works well apart from the odd hiccup, for example missing “hamlets” like Sunderland, Chelmsford…!  (seems to have been corrected in Navigator 5) and some occasionally “dubious” routes.

The “dubious” routes seem to be down to the source map data from Tele Atlas used by TomTom and other SatNav manufacturers as I recently had the opportunity to try Navicore on my Nokia mobile and got the same crazy route that TomTom proposed for a particular journey.
