Deimos Posted December 9, 2005 Share Posted December 9, 2005 Mainly because they are running out of names on the .com,.net, etc. Also, the .fr cc tld isquite controlled and is not available to private individuals. If you want a .fr domain name you have tosubmit your French company registration details to the registrar before yourdomain name (www.mydomain.fr) can be issued. .fr is a pretty controlled cc tld. .st is not and is available to anybody. What I would thing they have done is create sub-domains so you willprobably find www.mydomain.uk.st, www.mydomain.fr.st, etc..The thing to do (if you are that way inclined) is to go forthe www.itunes.fr.st (etc.). You mightneed some savings but chances are the ensuing legal battle with Apple will findin your favour and you may become slightly rich (in 20 years time when thecourt battles have settled). You wouldnot be the only person who will become rich if you do this.
