Hegs
I have the exact one, just being used as an ISDN wireless router while we await ADSL (next Month!).I can't recommend the box or the service highly enough. The box was bought in 2002 and there are still upgrades being provided and an active community forum. There are all sorts of clever things it can do. It had a long and active life in the UK under ADSL before being taken to France and has worked with about 6 ISDN ISPs. Their website is http://www.draytek.co.uk/ and their own retail arm through whom I bought is http://www.seg.co.uk/ who are the best bet - I think the latest model with ISDN backup is the 2600Gi but double-check.If they really don't have any stock and you really need one, PM me and maybe we can figure out something out. bigjimbishop
Can you use VoIP with ISDN?
Hegs
Mine is pre-VoIP. But a company I worked with had two voice lines plus data down a single 128 KB ISDN line UK<->US so it is possible theoretically. Apparently the choice of codec is the most important thing here:http://www.voip.org.uk/reviews/2004/02/03/voip-questions-answers/
bigjimbishop
I just searched Wanadoo.fr and France Telecom and I cannot find any mention of ISDN or RNIS.Weird! So I'm not sure if 128kbs connection is available, maybe it's just limited to 64kbs.Maybe they discourage this type of installation now that ADSL is rolling out.Problem is that I'm not likely to get it for 2 years! It's impacting on my business negatively more and more.Rural charm has its limitationsThanks for the info, I shall plough on. Hegs
Every ISDN line is two channels of 64 kb each which can be bonded together for a single 128 kb channel, or kept as one 64 kb and one "voice" line. RNIS is also known as Numeris and is considered "professional" so you have to order it on 1016 or the central FT office in your department, not an agence. More details: http://www.agence.francetelecom.com/mx/?tp=F&ref=2243&IDCible=2&type=3&donnee_appel=FTASN&id=201261135363005&sv=5-184162_B#le346Wanadoo.fr standard unlimited 25 EUR tarif is compatible with 64 kb ISDN, and you can either take a second unlimited subscription, pay by the minute or choose a second provider if you want 128 kb/s. The router has a "bandwidth on demand" which means it can take up the second connection if the first 64 kb is bust and you pay by the minute. The other providers of unlimited internet is Erevia (never used them) or Tiscali (about 75 EUR a month).
