Dell Dimension 3000 with three primary partitions taken up by Dell and XP (standard install). Linux (SimplyMEPIS) is installed on an extended partition with more logical partitions formatted ext3. No probs.

I have a brilliant old scanner which will only work under Win ME at the latest, so I deleted the three XP partitions and made two primaries instead, the first for ME (FAT32), and the second for XP (NTFS) as a dual boot - I'm typing this in Linux, by the way.

Now, the Win ME bootable CD won't boot, but the XP one will. But, the ME CD will boot in other computers...

BIOS is set up correctly to boot from the CD. If I use a Win ME floppy to boot and select the CD, Scandisk naturally runs and unintelligible errors crop up. FDISK shows the C:\ drive in ASCII format and again is unintelligible.

If I select F12 on boot (for options), no matter what option  I select, I get the Linux grub loader.

Why won't the CD boot as instructed? Getting frustrated! [:'(]
