aj_dr
Hi, I've had a hunt over the forum and can't find any hints to these questions, so was hoping someone here would have an idea. Do any DSL ISP's allow generic outbound (and inbound) connections onport 25 (SMTP)? (Tiscali/alice don't, and what with their, and most ofAOL's, IP space being in SPEWS/SORBS makes it pretty difficult to sendany message reliably to anywhere through either supplier.)And do any of them offer configurable DNS entry functions, IE, theability to re-write the generic string assigned by the ISP to the IPaddress for a pointer ip-to-name lookup to a customised value (Thisisn't critical but would be interesting/useful)? I already have adynamic dns service for forward name-to-ip functionality so this isn'tessential, but again could be useful. If anyone else out there in userland knows of any ISP's that can dothis, or the keywords to throw into google, I'd be most grateful. Many thanks in advance
Simon
I think you will struggle to find any ISP who does not block port 25 as this has huge benefits in cutting down security issues in spam, viruses and other nasties. Why do you want to use port 25?regardsSimon
Ianhaycox
If you have DNSBL problems would smtp.com be of any use to you ?Not tried it myself.
thunderhorse
aj-dr - I didn't fully understand your question, but are you wanting to e.g. get Wanadoo email past ISPs like AOL and NTL? Or indeed use an email a/d of another ISP through your current ISP?If so alter smtp on your outgoing to smtp-msa and use port 587.As I say, don't know if that's what you're looking for... aj_dr
Ah well, thanks anyhows. The auth-smtp/smtp-msa thing is interesting as I was pondering that as an answer, but never having done anything with it before I wasn't certain, not least with configuring it into sendmail. Was just thinking about things that can be done in the uk (yes, not having access-01-05-78.cust.dsl-3.myisp.fr in the reverse DNS lookup is rather geeky, but I enjoy personalising my net experience at the OSI level ;) )Thanks for your help though.
