Will someone put in the FAQ section a step by step procedure for posting photos into message posts.

OK - what you do is this.

Get a photo onto your computer, either by taking it or downloading it.

Register with Photobucket (www.photobucket.com)

Log in. On the landing page click on the Browse button, and select the picture you want to upload. Then click on the Submit button. In a few seconds, longer if it needs to resize the image, the picture will appear in your photobucket album. Beneath it there are three addresses. Copy and paste the [IMG] image address - beware, though, for me it is not enough just to click on the address to highlight the address as it seems to only copy the part I can see. I click on it to highlight it, click the right-hand arrow on my keyboard which moves me to the end of the address, click on it again and copy it.

Now go to your reply. If you paste in the address (it should say img at the beginning in square brackets and end with /img also in square brackets) and post it should appear as a picture.

Give it a try and see what happens.

For example, if you can put a suitably edited image on a web site i.e. edited for size, not straight off a camera! - you just need this in the body of your post:

(img)http://www.thunderhorse.flyer.co.uk/images/jack.jpg(/img)

and you'll get this:

[img]http://www.thunderhorse.flyer.co.uk/images/jack.jpg[/img]

Note though that the img open and close tags need to be SQUARE brackets, not shown here because if they were you'd see another picture...

There is some code which will allow html code to be rendered as a normal text string - in CSS it's <pre>normal code here</pre> - but I haven't found what it is on this site yet. Then we could have posted the [img] code in the proper square brackets.

Good grief, it looks like I managed it. The first try was too big so I deleted it, after going through the third degree from the forum, and the file size here is 72K the orchids appear in our garden each Spring. They are yellow ophrys and there are dozens of them along with early spider orchids. Wonderful sight!!

If you upload the image to photobucket and find it to be too big, you can resize it in photobucket without the need to delete it from your post. Just hit the edit button on your image in your photobucket account.

I have posted the URL above with [img] at the front and [/img] at the end and it doesn't even appear on my posting???

Lol this is my third edit and it won't even show above what I typed.

But then if ever you delete the photo from Photobucket, it also automatically seems to get deleted on here as there is no more link.  I am wondering if the same applies if you do copy and paste.

I used copy and paste to put your salamander photo on your thread Dog.

Nowt to do with Macs, Dog, your img tags need to be in square brackets. At the end you need /img (in square brackets)

Annoyingly, if I put in exactly what to use the software assumes it's an image...

If Dog clicks on 'quote' rather than 'reply' to any post with an image in it, the magic formula becomes clear (not that Dick's explanation wasn't).  As Dick says, brackets other than square ones [ and ] won't work.  And long URLs make the page too wide, as you can see here!

It's the 'img src' tag at the front of the URL that's stopping you from getting to the site.

Certainly have!  You could even shorten it a bit like this:

You don't need the [url] bits outside your [ img] bits UNLESS you deliberately wanted to create a link to the site where the image is located, which is what you've got here.  Hit 'Quote' to see what I mean.
