Suninfrance
A couple of months ago, I started getting Spam. Mainly American investment ads, but now Viagra, the usual c**p I used to get in England. The odd one or two didn't matter and I blocked the senders, but now I get so many, it's clogging my in-box.Any recommendations for a good Anti-Spam programme gratefully received.Jan
Le Petomane
Are you using Wanadoo? They will sell you a spamfilter, or Macafee will, or Norton, but the easiest thing to do is set up an account (it's free) with a provider like Yahoo who have a spam filter at the server so they don't get through to your computer. Suninfrance
Yes, I'm using Wanadoo. I'm also using AVG Anti Virus and Firewall, but that doesn't seem to stop the spam.I've just been onto the Webattack website and downloaded a freeware spam filter. Just need to teach it what to look for now. Looks easy enough to use though.
Coco
Strange, I've had the same problem. I used to get maybe between 5 and 10 spams a day. Over the last couple of months that has increased to between 50 and 100 a day. I dread to think what would happen if I couldn't check my email for a few days!! without changing from Wanadoo what can I do to get rid of it? Cassis
I get about the same, St Amour. And like you, it has just exploded in the past couple of months. It's easy to set up a few rules to get rid of most of them. The trickiest ones are those without any text in the message body to give themselves away, but which display their message via a .gif attachment. If you set a rule which says ditch anything with an attachment unless it's from someone in your address book that gets rid of those swine.Today I have 64 messages in my junk box - all junk, no false alerts - and have had one appear in my inbox, who has been promptly added to my 'junk mail sender' list.Still have to scan the junk message subjects briefly before clearing the box, though! Clair
All my email addresses are redirected to a main email address and I use Mailwasher to delete all unwanted messages. The program accesses the inbox and lists all the messages found there; I can mark them individually for deletion or mark the domain as "blacklisted", which means they will be flagged next time they appear. Then I ask Mailwasher to delete them from the inbox ot to bounce them back.So when I actually downwload the messages (I use Thunderbird), I only get the mail I have not deleted through Mailwasher. The programs can run in the background and access the inbox as often as you program it to and the whole thing takes about 10 seconds...This is freeware and for 1 email account only. The pro version allows multiple accounts. The trial version of the Pro version defaults to the freeware version after 30 days.I've been using it for over 3 years... Richard-R
You could try using http://www.cashette.com which is an e-mail account that collects your mail from upto 5 other accounts (I think). Seems to work well for me, and best of all it is free.Oh and if anyone gets any (419) scams, esp in French pass them on to me, so I can add them to the e-mail scams section of my website. Suninfrance
I've been using SpamBrave Lite for Outlook Express for the last few days and it's gradually "learning" and putting my spam into either SPAM folder or UNSURE. I have created a "white list" for all my regular contacts and anything that goes into the UNSURE folder can be either sent to the SPAM box or the "white list".It seems like a good little programme and it's free. Loiseau
Over the last few months my spam has also built up - to approaching 100 unwanted emails a day at present! Fortunately I also use Mailwasher to screen it, but it's hell if you have to miss out a few days... Of course I have set all sorts of spam filters, but I still have to run my eye down them just in case something is about to get obliterated that is genuine, such as a first-time contact via my website.I did ask myself whether it was going on the Living France quiz that did it. [:(] The huge increase in spam did seem to coincide with signing up for it. Anybody else make a connection with that?Angela

chris pp
With 4 web sites and personal mail I get around 500 to 600 a day, the words "king spam" ring out all the time from my normally polite mouth.Chris

chris pp
Yeah, well, a few hundred tins of that would be OK, or just one genuine "you have won x million".Chris
